At that point you'd be watching a recording, and they would have to update it continuously while you're watching it to give you a smooth experience. This probably has something to do with the chat as well, considering they would have to disable your chat input and display a chat recording instead once you've reached a certain point. I don't know how far behind, but when you're lagging too far behind it reloads the video entirely and catches you up. This allows you to rewind live video (a max of about 60 seconds) without having to create a clip or watch the VOD after the stream is finished. Today, if your connection is bad and you start buffering, it will resume where you left off when it's done buffering unless you're too far behind. Twitch DVR adds YouTube-like DVR functionality to Twitch streams. They do have the technology to do what you want to a certain degree. Go to View -> Advanced Controls to get the record/snapshot buttons. Select a directory to store your recordings. The chat you will see is a recording of the chat at that time as well, so you won't get any spoilers of the results. Go to Tools - > Preferences -> Input/Codecs. That way you don't have to wait until the stream is over if there's a long tournament and you want to watch a match that just ended. So next time: Check if the channel has enabled Past Broadcasts for you (some channels restrict it to subs only, and others have disabled it completely), then simply watch the latest recorded broadcast. Twitch is trialling a new feature that will let viewers rewind livestreams. If the stream got interrupted somehow, it may have been split into several past recordings. If the channel is still live, the latest "past broadcast" one is a recording of the current stream session so far (up to the point in time of when you clicked it). If you click the profile image of the channel (or add /profile at the end of the URL), you can see Past Broadcasts unless the channel has restricted that.
